Why did you build a center for cardiac surgery? First of all, it’s a matter of principle.
If you ask people from South Korea, or from the United States, or from Canada, or from the European countries, “Why would you build a center for cardiac surgery?” everybody will look at you like you are an imbecile and say, “Why not? Obviously, we need a lot of medical discipline, including cardiac surgery.”
But when you speak about Africa, everybody is surprised that you would want to open a cardiac center because they tend to believe that medicine in Africa should be limited to a few vaccinations, a few basic drugs, and nothing more.
So, the first reason was to demonstrate that it was possible to build a center where one of the most difficult surgical disciplines is regularly performed.
