What kind of situation did you have to deal with when you first arrived in Bangladesh? When I first arrived here, the fish production from aquaculture was low. But on the other hand, there were large water resources that were available, like seasonal ponds, annual ponds, and other water bodies.
But most of them were not utilized for fish farming. I was wondering why there are so many water resources, but no fish production.
Fish is the major animal protein of the people of Bangladesh. They would like to have fish for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, especially the poorer rural communities. So, that was the impression that I got, that I should do something so that fish can be produced in the seasonal water bodies, which until then were not being utilized for fish farming.
There were about 500 to 600 thousand small ditches and pools lying idle, which would be utilized for fish farming.
